On a day marked by the resignation of key figures from the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) and the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy (KCA), actress Parvathy Thiruvothu shared a cryptic social media story. The story, posted on both Facebook and Instagram on Sunday, featured an Instagram story by user navya.pulkurni.
The text read: “I still remember...When they had nobody with them..when everyone was questioning them..when double standards of artists were evident.. they shared this picture and holded each other just like this.” The post also included a picture of women linking arms and weaving their hair into one braid. The user navya.pulkurni also tagged actor-director Geethu Mohandas, actresses Rima Kallingal, Parvathy Thiruvothu, and Bhavana.

Interestingly, Thiruvothu captioned her story: “When the most of the industry did this, we did had some amazing people who helped us keep the embers burning. We are always going to be so grateful for them!”

The post has special relevance. Earlier today, Kerala Chalachitra Academy Chairman Ranjith and AMMA General Secretary Siddique resigned amid serious allegations. Ranjith stepped down following criticism over accusations made by a Bengali actress, while Siddique resigned in response to sexual harassment allegations from a young Malayalam actress. These developments follow the Kerala government’s release of a redacted version of the Hema Committee report, which highlighted issues faced by women in the Malayalam film industry.
