Mammootty has lauded Indrans for his extraordinary acting prowess. Once known for playing roles that were subjected to body-shaming, Indrans is now, according to Mammootty, putting everyone to shame with his performances. Reflecting on several of Indrans’ recent films, the veteran actor admitted he was thoroughly amazed.

These remarks came during the trailer launch of Aashan, where Mammootty shared the stage with Indrans. He said, “In his early films, Indrans was often cast in roles being body-shamed. That was the norm back then. Today, through his acting, he is putting everyone to shame. I’ve been blown away watching some of his recent films. What people once mocked has become a huge plus for him. Every shortcoming has turned into a strength.”

He continued, “I watch quite a few of his films from time to time. Take Jaladhara Pump Set, for instance—I don’t know how many of you have seen it, but it’s an enjoyable film. Then there’s Kuttante Shinigami. Did you know how he played the role? I was completely stunned. You wouldn’t believe it. This is a man who continues to perform brilliantly, and the films are genuinely good… Malayalam cinema is blessed with good stories, characters, and roles that give actors the chance to shine. That’s the fortune of our audiences and the result of their encouragement.”

Indrans takes centre stage in Aashan, a film directed by John Paul George, who previously gained acclaim with Gappy and Ambili. The movie, set against the backdrop of a film being shot within a film, explores the struggles of cinema technicians and enthusiasts, blending humour and satire with authenticity.

Mammootty also praised the project, saying, “There has never been a film quite like this. The approach, the craftsmanship, the actors’ performances—everything is outstanding. It’s a remarkable work, a grand event. When I heard the story, I immediately assured them there would be no issues.”

The film also marks a remarkable evolution in Indrans’ career. Once known mainly for comic roles, he now delivers intense and unconventional performances, further cementing his reputation as one of contemporary Malayalam cinema’s most versatile actors.
