After becoming one of the biggest surprise hits of the year, ‘Obsession’ has finally made its way to digital platforms. However, audiences hoping to stream the horror film as part of their subscription will have to wait a little longer.

The film is currently available only as a paid digital release, with viewers required to rent or buy it. A wider streaming debut is expected later this month, although the makers have not yet confirmed an official date.

Available to Rent and Buy

Directed by first-time filmmaker Curry Barker, ‘Obsession’ can now be rented or purchased through digital platforms such as Prime Video and Apple TV.

At present, it has not been added to the regular subscription libraries of either platform. The makers are expected to announce the film's full streaming release later this month, but no date has been revealed so far.

Bonus content for digital viewers

Those choosing to purchase or rent the film will also get access to additional content.

The digital version includes behind-the-scenes footage along with a director's commentary by Curry Barker, offering viewers a closer look at how the film was made.

A physical home release on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K UHD is scheduled for July 14. The film is also expected to stream on Peacock at a later date.

Released in cinemas on May 15 through Focus Features, ‘Obsession’ turned into one of the year's biggest box office success stories.

Made on a modest budget of around $700,000, the horror film opened strongly and continued attracting audiences through positive word of mouth. Obsession went on to earn more than $370 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film in the history of Focus Features and one of the most profitable films ever made.

Written and directed by 20-year-old YouTuber Curry Barker, ‘Obsession’ follows Bear, played by Michael Johnston, a young man who uses a mysterious object known as the One Wish Willow to make his crush Nikki, fall in love with him.

What begins as a dream come true soon takes a disturbing turn when Nikki, played by Inde Navarrette, develops an increasingly dangerous obsession with him. The cast also includes Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless and Andy Richter.
