
Although we were married for nearly 40 years, we lived together only for a few years. At all other times, he was busy with movies and I stayed at home. I had realised much earlier that the film industry was hallucinatory and not something I could seek after. Though Sasi chettan’s (that’s what I called him) field was movies, he never insisted me to change accordingly.
He was an excellent teacher to whom I could ask even the silliest of my doubts without the slightest hesitation. To which, he will propose practical solutions. On arriving at our home, he never bothered to ring the doorbell. Rather, he will perform various rhythms on the door with his hands. He was always lost in music and sang constantly whenever he was at home.
Apart from shooting, all other work fell into my responsibility. On those days when he had no shooting, he would rest at home. He had a special ability to sleep whenever he laid down, be it inside a car or flight. If I complain, then he used to say, “Don’t disturb me, I’m thinking and deciding on some grave matters.”
