Veteran Malayalam actor Mammootty has expressed his condolences following the death of Santhakumari Amma, the mother of fellow actor Mohanlal, who passed away on Tuesday at the age of 90.

Sharing a photograph of Mohanlal with his mother on social media, Mammootty wrote: “My heart feels heavy as we mourn the loss of someone who meant so much to all of us. Stay strong, dear Lal.”

Mammootty had yesterday visited Mohanlal’s residence in Elamakkara, Kochi, to pay his final respects. He was accompanied by actor Ramesh Pisharody, producers Anto Joseph, S. George and Antony Perumbavoor, along with Member of Parliament Hibi Eden.

Santhakumari Amma had been unwell for an extended period following a stroke and was receiving treatment at home. She died at around 2 pm on Tuesday.

She was the wife of the late Viswanathan Nair, a retired official of the Secretariat Law Department. Her younger son, Pyarelal, predeceased her. She is survived by her son Mohanlal and daughter-in-law Suchitra.

Tributes have continued to pour in from across the Malayalam film industry, reflecting the deep respect held for the family during this time of loss.
