
The screening of films has already started. Interestingly, it is the first awards after establishing a two-level mechanism and revising the rules in view of the rise in entries.
Kannada director P Seshadri, who received 8 national awards and Malayalam director Bhadran are appointed as the chairmen of two sub committees of the jury. Both are also members of the final jury.
Editor Suresh Pai, lyricist Madhu Vasudevan, critic EP Rajagopalan, cinematographer Shenad Jalal, writer Rekha Raj and script writer and lyricist Shibu Chakravarthy are the members of preliminary jury.
The final jury includes cinematographer CK Muraleedharan, music director Mohan Sithara, sound designer Harikumar Madhavan Nair and critic and script writer N Sasidharan.
Chalachithra Akademi secretary C Ajoy will be the member secretary of the 8- member preliminary and 7-member final jury.
Critic Dr PK Rajasekharan is appointed as the chairman of the jury that selects best book and article on film. Film critics Dr Muraleedharan Tharayil, Dr Bindhu Menon and C Ajoy (member secretary) are the other members.
80 films including 4 children’s films have been submitted for the awards.
Fahadh Faasil, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Indrans, Jayasurya, Biju Menon and Prithviraj are competing for the best actor awards. Anna Ben, Nimisha Sajayan, Shobana, Siji Pradeep and Parvathy Thiruvothu are having a tough competition for the best actress award. Over 10 movies including ‘Great Indian Kitchen’ and ‘Bharatapuzha’ are listed for best film award.
