Mohanlal to receive Sreekumaran Thampi Foundation Award from CM on Saturday

Thiruvananthapuram: The Sreekumaran Thampi Foundation will hold its annual award ceremony at 5:30 pm on Saturday to celebrate the sathabhishekam (84th birthday, after witnessing one thousand full moons in one’s lifetime) of poet, lyricist, and filmmaker Sreekumaran Thampi. The event, named 'Sreemohanam,' will take place at Nishagandhi auditorium, Thiruvananthapuram, where Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will present the award to celebrated Malayalam actor Mohanlal.

Culture Department Minister Saji Cherian, Sreekumaran Thampi himself, and other notable guests will be present. The ceremony will also honour Sreekumaran Thampi, with a special musical event led by famous playback singer M. G. Sreekumar. The event will feature performances of Sreekumaran Thampi's songs by a lineup of well-known singers.

Foundation Secretary C. Sivankutty will welcome attendees, while Foundation Chairman Gokulam Gopalan will preside over the event. Chief Minister Vijayan will officially inaugurate the programme and present the awards. Sreekumaran Thampi will read the ‘Mangalapatram’ (honorary certificate) and present it to Mohanlal.

Minister Saji Cherian will felicitate Sreekumaran Thampi, with former Kerala Legislative Assembly Speaker M. Vijayakumar and former Chief Secretary K. Jayakumar IAS delivering speeches. NIMS MD Dr Faizal Khan will present to Mohanlal a photo album showcasing the past activities of the Sreekumaran Thampi Foundation and stills of Sreekumaran Thampi.

Mohanlal will distribute mementos to Kalliyoor Sasi for his outstanding contributions to the film industry, and the top two children from a singing competition. The Foundation’s President Jayasekaran Nair will deliver the vote of thanks, followed by the musical performance.

Entry to the event will require a pass, which has been introduced for this occasion.
