The much-awaited L2E: Empuraan, starring Mohanlal, will have its first-day, first-show at 6 AM IST on March 27, 2025. The film will be released worldwide simultaneously, with screenings scheduled according to respective time zones. It will be available in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada. Further details regarding the global premiere are expected soon.

In anticipation of Empuraan, its prequel Lucifer is set to return to theatres on March 20. The re-release aims to reconnect audiences with the first instalment before the second chapter arrives.

Sequel to Lucifer
Empuraan is the second instalment in a planned trilogy, with Mohanlal reprising his role as Khureshi-Ab'raam/Stephen Nedumpally. Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and written by Murali Gopy, the film’s production is backed by Lyca Productions, Aashirvad Cinemas, and Sree Gokulam Movies.

The film’s cast includes Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and international actor Jerome Flynn, known for Game of Thrones.

Extensive filming locations
Filming began on October 5, 2023, in Faridabad and was conducted across multiple locations, including the United States, the United Kingdom, the UAE, Chennai, Mumbai, Gujarat, Ladakh, Kerala, Hyderabad, Shimla, and Leh.

Massive promotional campaign
The film’s promotions started on January 26, 2025, with the release of the first teaser. Between February 9 and February 26, daily character introduction videos were unveiled, introducing two characters each day. The campaign concluded with Mohanlal’s character poster and video, covering a total of 36 character reveals over 18 days.

Pan-Indian and global release
Empuraan is poised to be one of the biggest pan-Indian and global releases for a Malayalam film. The third part of the trilogy has already been confirmed by Mohanlal, Prithviraj, Murali Gopy, and producer Antony Perumbavoor.

Shot entirely in anamorphic format with a 1:2.8 aspect ratio, the film maintains visual consistency with Lucifer. The same format will be used for the final instalment.
