Kochi: Santhakumari (90), the mother of actor Mohanlal, passed away on Tuesday. She had been undergoing treatment for a long time due to age-related ailments and was residing at Mohanlal’s home in Elamakkara, Kochi.

Her husband, Viswanathan Nair, passed away earlier, while her elder son, Pyarilal, died in 2000.

Mohanlal shared a close bond with his mother and, despite his busy schedule, always made time to care for her.

Santhakumari was a significant influence on Mohanlal’s film career, something the actor has acknowledged on several occasions. Recently, Mohanlal had said it was a great fortune to be able to share his Dadasaheb Phalke Award with his mother, adding that the first person he visited after learning about the honour was her.

The mortal remains will be taken to the family home in Mudavanmukal, Thiruvananthapuram, where the cremation is scheduled to be held on Wednesday afternoon, family sources added.
