Amid growing excitement for the highly anticipated release of 'L2: Empuraan', directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and starring Mohanlal, numerous conspiracies have been circulating among moviegoers and fans. These include theories involving the Illuminati, mercenary wars, and a surprise appearance by Mammootty in the upcoming movie.

Following the release of cinematic posters of Empuraan, fans have been crafting theories inspired by references from the first instalment of the franchise. However, director Prithviraj and the film’s scriptwriter Murali Gopi have remained tight-lipped about the plot, leaving audiences eager to uncover what lies ahead.

Much like its predecessor, Lucifer, the film is expected to delve deeper into the enigmatic past of Mohanlal's character, Stephen Nedumpally. According to moviegoers, Empuraan is likely to present a new perspective on Stephen's mysterious persona. However, it is reported that the film serves both as a prequel and sequel, exploring Stephen’s rise to power as the notorious Kureshi Abraham, while also delving into the aftermath of what happened in Lucifer.

One fan speculated, "What Govardhan hinted at in Lucifer will probably be explored on a larger canvas. This could include details of Stephen’s involvement in post-war reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq." In the first movie, Govardhan, the character played by Indrajith, hints about Stephen's mysterious past, leaving the fans expecting an answer by the end of the movie. However, as the film nears its end it becomes apparent that Mohanlal is a person named Kureshi Abraham. The film concludes with a surprising twist, sparking fans to come up with various theories.

Meanwhile, Prithviraj has already confirmed that there will be a third instalment in the franchise. He stated, "L2E #Empuraan was not shot with full-format lenses. I’d like to stick to anamorphic and a 1:2.8 aspect ratio for all three films in this franchise." This revelation has fueled rumours that Empuraan may follow the trajectory of the blockbuster KGF series. A user on X speculated, "Empuraan is not the final movie in the franchise. I strongly believe Prithviraj and Murali Gopy are crafting a Godfather-like saga."

A user on Reddit commented under an L2 Empuraan thread, saying, "Empuraan is a prequel that will lead to the conclusion of Lucifer 3. Empuraan will reveal who KA (Kureshi Abraham) is and how Zaeed (Prithviraj's character) is connected to him. So, it's likely that Empuraan will end with a bang." However, some events went ahead and claimed that Mammootty would make an appearance in the movie: "Whatever be the theories. 100% Mammookka is there in L2!!"

Lucifer is a 2019 Indian Malayalam-language political action thriller film directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and written by Murali Gopy. Produced by Antony Perumbavoor through the production house Aashirvad Cinemas, the film marks Prithviraj's directorial debut and features Mohanlal in the title role, alongside an ensemble supporting cast including Vivek Oberoi, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Indrajith Sukumaran, Sai Kumar, Baiju Santhosh, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Saniya Iyappan, Nyla Usha, Suresh Chandra Menon, Fazil and Sachin Khedekar. Deepak Dev composed the film's music, and the cinematography was handled by Sujith Vaassudev.

Empuraan is scheduled to be released in theatres worldwide on 27 March 2025 and in IMAX formats.
