Alappuzha: In a bid to resolve the shortage of freshwater in Kuttanad, actor Mohanal on Monday gifted an automated drinking water plant of international quality to the people of the region. The plant was set up by ViswaSanthi Foundation, a non-profit organisation established by the actor, in association with EY GDS.
The solar grid powered smart dispensing water plant was offered to the beneficiaries by actor-director Major Ravi, managing director of ViswaSanthi Foundation, at a ceremony on June 5 (World Environment Day). The plant is capable of storing and providing nine lakh litres of water per month.
The move is expected to benefit around 300 families in the area, who can utilise an electronic card to avail the freshwater. Furthermore, the plant is capable of removing harmful iron and calcium chloride and eliminating pathogenic bacteria like coliform and E. coli from the water.
