Marvel has confirmed that ‘Avengers: Endgame’ will return to cinemas in 2026, positioning the record-breaking blockbuster as a major lead-up to ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.

Marvel fans are gearing up for a massive 2026 as the studio prepares to roll out two major titles – ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ and the highly anticipated ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. In the lead-up to the next Avengers chapter, Marvel has now confirmed that ‘Avengers: Endgame’ will return to cinemas in September 2026, reigniting excitement around the franchise.
Marvel announced the decision in an official statement, confirming that the blockbuster will be re-released on 25 September 2026. The studio has not yet indicated how long the film will remain in theatres.
A strategic re-release ahead of ‘Doomsday’
The return of ‘Endgame’ – the climactic finale of Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – appears designed to build momentum ahead of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the move could significantly boost fan engagement before the new instalment arrives in December.
When it first released in 2019, ‘Endgame’ became the second-highest-grossing film ever in the US, collecting $858 million domestically. It sits behind ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, which earned $937 million.
The re-release also underscores Disney’s renewed commitment to theatrical exhibition at a time when other studios are reconsidering cinema-first strategies. The announcement notably came hours after Netflix revealed its plan to acquire Warner Bros.
What to expect in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will assemble a massive roster of characters from across the MCU, bringing together casts from ‘Thunderbolts’ and ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’, as well as the X-Men universe.
The film features Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Pedro Pascal, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, among several others. In a major twist, Robert Downey Jr. will return to the MCU – but not as Tony Stark. Instead, he will take on the mantle of Doctor Doom.
The film is scheduled for release on 18 December 2026, followed by ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ in December 2027. Marvel has not yet revealed plot specifics for either film.
Disney updates its release calendar
Alongside the ‘Endgame’ announcement, Disney has reshuffled parts of its wider release slate. The planned 50th anniversary re-release of ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’ has been pushed forward to 19 February 2027, moving up from its earlier date of 30 April 2027. An untitled ‘The Simpsons’ movie has also shifted to 3 September 2027.
