Chennai: After 36 years of hitting the screens, Mani Ratnam’s gangster drama ‘Nayakan’ starring Kamal Haasan is all set to re-release in cinemas on November 3 to celebrate the actor's birthday which falls on November 7.  

The movie will be released in 280 theatres across the country, including 120 in Tamil Nadu and 60 in Kerala. ‘Nayakan’, which had its initial release in 1987, narrates the tale of  Velu Naicker and is loosely based on the life of an underworld don in Bombay. 

For his portrayal of Velu, Kamal Haasan had bagged the National Award for Best Actor that year. The movie also stars Saranya Ponvannan, Janakaraj, Delhi Ganesh, Nasser among others.
