Ekta Nagar, Gujarat: Malayalam superstar Mammootty and Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan were jointly honoured with the Best Actor in a Leading Role award at the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony being held here on Tuesday.

Mammootty received the honour for his performance in the Malayalam film Bramayugam, while Kartik Aaryan was recognised for his role in Chandu Champion.
Mammootty donned a white bandhgala kurta for the event, while Kartik Aaryan wore a black bandhgala kurta for the same event. Dhanush wore a traditional outfit for the evening, which included a white dhoti and a half-sleeve shirt. Kartik Aaryan and Dhanush were seen sitting together.

Mammootty also received a standing ovation from the audience as he accepted the prestigious award at the ceremony, where President Droupadi Murmu is presenting the honours.

The 72nd National Film Awards are being presented outside New Delhi for the first time. The ceremony is being held near the Statue of Unity and honours achievements in Indian cinema for 2024.

Yami Gautam Dhar was honoured with the Best Actress award for Article 370. The film also won the Best Feature Film award.

Rajkumar Periasamy was named Best Director for Amaran, while Randeep Hooda received the Best Debut Director award for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar.

Veteran Kannada actor Anant Nag is receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024 for his contribution to Indian cinema spanning more than five decades. A total of 92 winners are being honoured across various categories.
Instituted in 1954, the National Awards are among the most prestigious honours of Indian cinema, which recognise excellence across Feature Films, Non-Feature Films and Writing on Cinema and include a wide range of languages, regions and forms of filmmaking.
