Actor Dileep, who has been a part of the Malayalam film industry for over three decades, recently opened up about his career, reflecting on its ups and downs and expressing his gratitude towards his audience.
In an interview with Silly Monks, Dileep said, "Cinema has given me everything, and my audience has always kept me in the industry. From my beginnings in mimicry to playing both small and large roles in films, my audience has been my backbone. My commitment lies with them."
Dileep expressed frustration about the restrictions he faces when it comes to speaking to the media. "I face certain restrictions from expressing myself, even when faced with criticism. However, I believe that one day, God will grant me the opportunity to speak, and with this faith, I endure everything. No matter what challenges arise, my only option is to proceed legally."
The actor emphasized his belief in the strength of his audience, stating, "Anyone can throw stones at me and tarnish my image, but I cannot do anything in return. My strength lies in my audience. They are the ones who made the person I am today and have kept me going. It is through the characters that I played in the movies that my audience has come to love me, even without meeting me in person."
Dileep further added, "Therefore, my commitment to them is even greater."
The response from Dileep comes amid renewed public attention on the case following the death of Director Balachandrakumar, a key witness in the 2017 actress assault case. Balachandrakumar, who had made explosive statements against Dileep in 2021, passed away at the age of 54 after battling multiple health complications. He was undergoing treatment for a kidney ailment at a hospital in Chengannur.
Balachandrakumar’s revelations had a significant impact on the case, claiming that Dileep possessed visuals of the assault and had attempted to influence witnesses. The director’s statements led to a fresh investigation into the case, intensifying the public and legal scrutiny surrounding Dileep.
The 2017 assault case, in which Dileep is accused, involves the abduction and sexual assault of a South Indian actress. The case gained further attention after Balachandrakumar's statements, and the public's interest has been reignited following his death.
