Malayalam’s first female superhero movie, Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra, backed by Dulquer Salmaan, has taken the box office by storm. Directed by Dominic Arun and starring Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen, the film has soared to become the highest-grossing Malayalam movie in India, earning ₹142.90 crore and surpassing the previous record-holder, Manjummel Boys (₹142.08 crore).

Starting with a steady climb rather than an instant hit, Lokah collected ₹54.7 crore in its first week, followed by ₹47 crore, ₹27.1 crore and ₹13.25 crore in the subsequent weeks. A strong Friday collection of ₹85 lakh, according to Sacnilk, helped push it to the number one spot.

The Malayalam version led the earnings with ₹111.17 crore, while the Tamil and Telugu versions contributed ₹14.48 crore and ₹13.65 crore respectively, with the rest coming from Hindi screenings.

In just 30 days, Lokah set several milestones: becoming the third Malayalam film to cross ₹100 crore in its original language, the first female-led Malayalam film to do so, and the third highest-grossing female-led film in India, beating hits like Raazi and Gangubai Kathiawadi.

This film is the opening chapter of a five-part cinematic universe crafted by Dulquer Salmaan and Dominic Arun as producer and director respectively, with the next instalment starring Tovino Thomas.
