Letterboxd has unveiled its list of the highest-rated movies of 2024. Letterboxd is a global social network for grass-roots film discussion and discovery. As impressive as it should be, five Malayalam films have made a strong presence among the seven Indian films that were ranked in the list.

Chidambaram's ‘Manjummel Boys’ and Anand Ekarshi's ‘Aattam’ are the Malayalam films that have made it to the top ten positions. ‘Bramayugam’, directed by Rahul Sadasivan and starring Mammootty, was ranked 15. Jithu Madhavan's ‘Aavesham’ is in the 16th position, while Girish A D's ‘Premalu’ is in the 25th position.

In the list of 25 films made this year, there are seven films from India. It is a proud accomplishment that five of them are from Malayalam. The Hindi film ‘Laapataa Ladies’ directed by Kiran Rao is the leading Indian film in Letterboxd rating. ‘Laapataa Ladies’ is ranked fifth in the global list. ‘Chamkila’ by Imtiaz Ali based on the life of singer Amar Singh Chamkila is in the 20th position in the list.

Denis Villeneuve's ‘Dune: Part 2’ took first place, followed by Mike Cheslik's ‘Hundreds of Beavers’. The Thai drama ‘How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies’ secured the third spot, while Zendaya's ‘Challengers’ ranked fourth.

To be included in the rankings, films must have been released in any country, whether through a theatrical release, streaming service, or video-on-demand run. Additionally, each film needs to have received at least 2,000 ratings on Letterboxd.
