With 'Khel Khel Mein' set to hit cinema halls on August 15, coinciding with India's Independence Day, the film is poised to clash with John Abraham's 'Vedaa' and Rajkumar Rao-led 'Stree 2' at the box office.
As the trailer sets the tone for a rib-tickling adventure, here are the key takeaways and things you should watch out for in this upcoming laughter-filled extravaganza.
Will Akshay Kumar's break the jinx?
All eyes are on Akshay's performance, given the fact that he has been delivering back-to-back flops at the box office. Since 2022, Akshay has only delivered a single box-office success - ‘OMG 2,co-starring Pankaj Tripathi. His other films, ‘Raksha Bandhan’ (2022), ‘Ram Setu’ (2022), ‘Selfiee’ (2023), ‘Mission Raniganj’ (2023), ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ (2024), and the recently released, ‘Sarfira,’ have all failed to perform at the ticket window. With ‘Khel Khel Mein,’ it will be interesting to see if he is able to mint big numbers with the collection and break his streak of delivering flops.
Akshay Kumar's comeback to comedy
Other than action films, Akshay is loved for his impeccable comic timing. The actor has delivered critical comedy hits in the past such as ‘Hera Pheri,’ ‘Heyy Babyy,’ ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa,’ and many others. His last comic release, ‘Good Newz,’ was released in 2019, co-starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Kiara Advani. Though Akshay did show glimpses of his comic brilliance in ‘OMG 2’ and ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ in bits and pieces, ‘Khel Khel Mein’ will mark his comeback to the comedy genre after a gap of four years.
Fardeen Khan's return to big screen
After being away from the limelight for many years, Fardeen Khan is all set to return to the silver screen with 'Khel Khel Mein'. He recently made his acting comeback with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's web series 'Heera Mandi'. Khan essays the role of Kumar's friend in the film. Per the trailer, Khan's character and comic timing slightly remind of his roles in 'Heyy Babyy', and 'No Entry'. His last theatrical release was ‘Dulha Mil Gaya,’ in the year 2010.
Work of old and new collaborations
Produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series Films, ‘Khel Khel Mein,’ will witness many co-stars reuniting with each other, while also showing some new collaborations. It will mark the fourth collaboration between Akshay and Pannu after ‘Baby’, Naam Shabana,’ and ‘Mission Mangal.’ Kapoor has also returned to act alongside Kumar after ‘Bell Bottom.’ Fardeen and Akshay too have previously worked together in ‘Heyy Babyy.’ However, it is for the first time that the ‘Sarfira’ actor will be working with director Mudassar Aziz, who is best known for directing ‘Happy Bhaag Jayegi.’
Film’s music may be a chart-topper
While the film’s trailer has increased curiosity among the fans, its music has definitely struck the chords with the audience. The film’s music has been composed by Tanishk Bagchi, Guru Randhawa, Rochak Kohli, Jassi Sidhu, Saji Ali, Raj Ranjodh, and Intense. So far, the makers have released two songs titled ‘Hauli Hauli’ and ‘Duur Na Karin.’ While ‘Hauli Hauli’ is sung by Randhawa, Yo Yo Honey SIngh, and Neha Kakkar, ‘Duur Na Karin’ is a romantic track backed by the vocals of Vishal and Zarah S Khan.
