Thiruvananthapuram: The 53rd Kerala State Film Awards were announced here on Friday and Superstar Mammootty bagged the Best Actor title while young artist Vincy Aloshious was named Best Actress.

Remarkable acting performances showcased by Kunchacko Boban and Alencier Ley Lopez in the movies 'Nna, Thaan Case Kodu' and 'Appan' respectively earned them the Jury's Special Mention.

Vincy Aloshious who clinched her maiden award for acting was on cloud nine. The actor who won the award for her performance in the movie 'Rekha’ said that the state award is literally the first award that she is taking home ever since she started acting.

“I am really happy. I hope the win gives more recognition to my movie ‘Rekha’ as well. I badly want people to see it. I would like to thank the entire crew of the movie,” said Vincy.

Responding to Mathrubhumi News after his victory, actor Alencier said that “It would be a great honour to share the stage with legendary actor Mammooty during the award ceremony. I am deeply indebted to my colleagues for entrusting me with the character of ‘Itti’ in ‘Appan’. My gratitude to the director of the movie Maju and others including actor Sunny Wayne can’t be actually expressed in words,” he said.

Alencier also recollected how veteran actor Lalu Alex had heaped praise on him after watching ‘Appan’.

An elated Kunchako Boban said that “he was feeling blessed”.

“I am someone who took a break from movies a few years ago. But now I am being bestowed with awards for my performances in films. The mere fact that I was in the race for the best actor award along with Mammukka is itself a lifetime accomplishment for me. I ‘breathe’ cinema these days. I am humbled by all the love and support that I am receiving,” said the Mollywood superstar.
