The The Kerala Story 2 release dispute is set for a possible resolution as the Kerala High Court is expected to deliver its verdict on Thursday at 2 pm

Kochi: The release and certification of The Kerala Story 2 remain under judicial scrutiny as the Kerala High Court is set to deliver its verdict on Thursday at 2 pm on petitions challenging the film’s certification. The legal dispute surrounding the film’s certification and release continues as the court examines petitions challenging the certification granted by the Central Board of Film Certification.
During hearings, the bench reportedly asked the certification authority about the classification given to the film. The court also directed the filmmakers not to release distribution rights until the hearing concludes and the final decision is delivered.
The judges questioned why the film had not received an adult-only certificate despite concerns raised during certification review. Film certification in India follows a structured system to regulate public exhibition of movies.
Under current rules, films are classified into categories based on audience age suitability.
The “U” certificate allows unrestricted public viewing. The “U/A” category permits viewing under parental guidance for children in age groups such as 7+, 13+ and 16+.
The “A” certificate restricts viewing to adults only, while the “S” certificate is limited to specific professional or social groups.
Following the Cinematograph (Amendment) Act 2023, additional age-based subcategories were introduced to provide more detailed audience guidance. If a film carries an A or S certificate, separate certification may be required for television or other media broadcast.
The ongoing legal proceedings reflect broader public and legal concerns regarding the film’s narrative claims and certification process. The court is expected to announce its decision after reviewing arguments related to public apprehension and regulatory compliance.
