Kajol and R Madhavan, stars of upcoming thriller 'Maa' and 'Shaitaan' respectively, discuss their experiences filming intense scenes.

What happens when two powerhouse performers who have recently stared down the supernatural get talking? Sparks fly and secrets spill!
Ahead of the release of ‘Maa’, Kajol and R. Madhavan came together for a lively chat, reflecting on their stints in thrillers under Ajay Devgn’s banner, Devgn Films — ‘Shaitaan’ for Madhavan and the upcoming ‘Maa’ for Kajol.
With ‘Maa’ being promoted as “From the world of Shaitaan,” the two actors compared notes on filming intense, emotionally charged scenes. In a moment of raw honesty, Kajol revealed that working on ‘Maa’ left her feeling “eerie, bad, and yucky”—a glimpse into the unsettling space the film inhabits, and the emotional weight it demanded from its actors.
When Madhav asked Kajol if there were any scenes in ‘Maa’ that made her feel uncomfortable while filming, or made her feel eerie, bad, and yucky. To this, Kajol responded, “Eerie, bad, yucky… I felt throughout the film. The climax was very brutal to shoot physically as well because it’s a full-on action sequence. We had a lot of tying up, throwing here and there, hanging, and all of that. It was physically very, very exhausting and challenging. But the line of the story is very clear - it’s the mother who has to protect her daughter at any cost. How she gets there is the whole plot; that’s how the plot thickens. But yes, parts of it scared me.”
Kajol also posed the same question to Madhavan, who said that he had many sensitive moments and recalled a particular scene from ‘Shaitaan’ where his character, Vanraj, makes Jahnvi (Janki Bodiwala) dance all night, and eventually, Jahnvi, who can’t hold her bladder any longer, pees in her pants. “As a villain also, if I see that, then the whole messaging changes. I was trying to figure out how to do it in such a way that we turn his (Vanraj’s) reaction into something disgusting. That’s when I covered myself under the blanket so that I don’t have to see it (Janhvi peeing in pants). I felt very relieved as an actor, also, that I didn’t have to see it. I’m just telling the mother to go and help her daughter. There were many scenes where I felt uncomfortable, but found a way out to perform.”
Meanwhile, 'Maa' is slated for its theatrical release on June 27. Starring Kajol in the lead, 'Maa' also features Indraneil Sengupta and Ronit Roy in pivotal roles. The film is directed by Vishal Furia, best known for co-directing 'Criminal Justice' Season 1.
