Los Angeles: John Cena's Christopher Smith, better known as the Peacemaker, is making his highly anticipated return in the second season of the DC Studios series! The official trailer, unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, takes the anti-hero into a thrilling new realm involving a parallel dimension.

What the Trailer Reveals

The "Peacemaker 2" trailer opens with Christopher Smith grappling with the fallout from his past actions. He's actively being hunted by Frank Grillo's Rick Flag Sr., the head of A.R.G.U.S., who is seeking vengeance for the death of his son. Amidst these mounting troubles and a strained relationship with Jennifer Holland's Emilia Harcourt, Peacemaker stumbles upon a portal to a new universe. In this parallel dimension, he's surprisingly viewed as a hero rather than the outcast he is in his own world, finding what seems to be a more desirable life.

Back in his "real" world, Rick Flag Sr. is determined to close this dimensional portal as part of his revenge scheme against Peacemaker. The trailer also features a poignant moment where Danielle Brooks' Leota Adebayo tells Peacemaker, "No matter how great the grass is over there, you belong here with us," hinting at the emotional core of the new season. The show's creators teased the season's themes with the caption, "Making peace with yourself is harder than it looks."

James Gunn on Peacemaker's Evolution

Speaking at Comic-Con, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn offered insights into Peacemaker's character arc in the upcoming season. He emphasised his preference for character growth and change in TV shows, stating, "Peacemaker is a different guy this year. He's dealing with the demons he uncovered from the first season, and trying to deal with them, and the world is not accepting him the way he is. They aren't accepting him as a hero." Gunn further clarified that Peacemaker Season 2 takes place approximately one month after the events of his recently released Superman film, directly integrating the series into the new DC Universe continuity.

The trailer launch event saw John Cena appearing in full Peacemaker costume, joined by James Gunn and co-stars Jennifer Holland, Frank Grillo, Freddie Stroma, Steve Agee, and Sol Rodriguez.

Peacemaker 2 is set to be released on August 21, 2025, on HBO Max.
