Thrissur: Playback singer Mridula Warrier could not contain her happiness as she bagged the Kerala State Film Award for Best Singer on Friday. The singer, who became a household name after her big break ‘Lalee Lalee’ (Kalimannu) clinched the award for the song ‘Mayilpeeli Ilakunnu Kanna’ from the film ‘Pathonpatham Noottandu’.
“Although the song was a difficult one, Jayachandran sir (M Jayachandran) gave me confidence. I didn’t even know that the awards were to be announced today. I came to know about it on my way back from Kozhikode,” Mridula said.
Earlier, Mridula had won the special jury mention in the state film awards in 2013 for ‘Lalee Lalee’, written by ONV Kurup and composed by Jayachandran. At present, she has a handful of upcoming projects in her kitty, including a song by music director Vidyasagar.
Mridula Warrier, who began her musical career through a television reality show, entered the world of playback singing through ‘Oru Vakkum Mindathe’ (Big B) in 2007. She is married to Dr Arun V Warrier and has a seven-year-old daughter.
