Janhvi Kapoor has responded to the circulation of an AI-altered video featuring footage from her Chuttamalle song, turning the controversy into a wider conversation about consent, personal boundaries and the misuse of technology.

The actress questioned the mindset that allows a woman's appearance, clothing or past choices to be treated as permission to cross boundaries, including in the digital space.

Her comments came after Jr NTR and Chiranjeevi publicly criticised the circulation of the manipulated content and called for action against those responsible.

Janhvi says ‘no’ cannot be reinterpreted

Addressing the issue, Janhvi argued that consent cannot be treated as something permanent or assumed.

She pointed out that a woman can agree to something on one occasion and refuse it on another, and that decision must be respected. For Janhvi, the same principle applies regardless of how a woman dresses, looks or has behaved in the past.

The actress also stressed that decisions about her body and image belong to her. She described the problem as part of a much larger experience faced by women, where safety, judgement and personal boundaries are constantly negotiated.

“Her body. Her image. Her boundaries. Her choice,” Janhvi wrote.

Why the Chuttamalle AI video sparked outrage

The controversy began after a manipulated video using footage of Janhvi from Chuttamalle, her song with Jr NTR from Devara: Part 1, was circulated online.

The incident has drawn attention to the way AI and other digital tools can be used to alter existing footage of a person. In Janhvi's case, the actress used the controversy to question not only the creation of such content but also the attitude behind treating someone else's image as something that can be altered and used without their permission.

She also pointed to the growing presence of this problem in the digital world, where a woman's privacy can be violated without any physical contact.

Jr NTR, Chiranjeevi and others back Janhvi

Jr NTR was one of the first prominent voices to condemn the incident. Chiranjeevi also spoke against the circulation of manipulated content and called for action against those responsible.

Janhvi later thanked both actors for taking a stand. She said she was particularly moved by Jr NTR's decision to speak about an issue that did not directly concern him, adding that support from people with a large public platform can matter to women who have experienced similar situations.

She also acknowledged Vijay Deverakonda and Khushbu Sundar for supporting the sentiment and calling for action.

Janhvi's statement ultimately moved beyond the Chuttamalle controversy itself. She questioned why women still have to ask for something as basic as being treated with dignity and as human beings.

Meanwhile, her rumoured boyfriend Shikhar Pahariya also showed his support by resharing her Instagram story.
