Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ has surged past ₹15 crore in worldwide advance bookings, a week before its 9 January release.

Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming political-action drama ‘Jana Nayagan’ has begun its box-office run with remarkable momentum, even before its theatrical release. The film, which marks Vijay’s final appearance on screen before he transitions to full-time politics, is set to premiere on 9 January 2026.
Despite advance bookings opening only in select regions, the film has already posted strong early numbers, signalling a massive opening worldwide.
Early advance sales touch ₹15 crore
According to Cinema Express, Jana Nayagan has generated close to ₹15 crore in global advance bookings, with a full week left before release.
In India, only limited cinemas in Kerala and Karnataka have begun ticket sales. Even so, domestic collections have reached around ₹3 crore. Trade analysts expect a major surge once bookings commence across Tamil Nadu and other major markets, where Vijay’s fan base typically drives huge pre-release numbers.
Strong international demand
Overseas pre-sales have shown even greater traction. Opening-day advance bookings alone have reportedly fetched ₹11–12 crore, fuelled by strong pre-release buzz in North America, the United Kingdom and Australia.
With international ticketing yet to open fully across other territories, industry experts believe the advance booking tally will climb sharply over the next few days.
A high-stakes release for Vijay
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan weaves political undertones with large-scale action. Vijay plays a character rooted in ideology, power struggles and conflict – a role widely seen as aligning with his forthcoming political career.
The film’s timing has amplified anticipation, with fans viewing it as a symbolic farewell to “Vijay the actor” before his political journey begins.
Trailer release sparks fan frenzy
The makers of ‘Jana Nayagan’ released the film’s trailer on Thursday at 6:45 p.m., unveiling it simultaneously in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. The multilingual drop immediately triggered a wave of excitement online.
During the film’s audio launch in Malaysia, Vijay confirmed that Jana Nayagan would be his final outing as an actor, saying, “When I entered the cinema, I thought I was building a small sand house here. But you all have built me a palace… For the fans who gave up everything for me, I'm giving up cinema itself.”
Ensemble cast and crew
Alongside Vijay, the film features Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol in prominent roles. The supporting cast includes Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani and Narain.
The technical crew boasts Anirudh Ravichander on music, Sathyan Sooryan handling cinematography and Pradeep E Ragav in charge of editing.
