The OTT rights of ‘Jana Nayagan’, starring Vijay, are back in focus as several streaming platforms are reportedly trying to bag the film’s digital rights. Directed by H Vinoth, the film has stayed in the spotlight ever since it was announced, especially with Vijay’s growing political presence in Tamil Nadu.
The film was initially expected to have a straightforward theatrical and OTT release. But things reportedly became complicated after the movie ran into release-related issues.
As per a reports, Amazon Prime Video had earlier acquired the OTT rights for the film. However, after the release delays and other issues, the deal was reportedly dropped, leaving uncertainty around the film’s digital release.
Now, the situation appears to have shifted again. Following Vijay’s political victory and his swearing-in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, OTT platforms are reportedly showing fresh interest in the project.
According to trade reports, Vijay’s popularity has gone up further after the elections, and that has increased the demand for the film’s streaming rights as well.
People in the industry believe the movie’s theatrical business in Tamil Nadu could remain strong because public interest around Vijay is currently very high.
‘Jana Nayagan’ was originally planned for a January 9 release, but censor-related delays forced the makers to postpone the film.
The team also faced another setback after parts of the movie were leaked online, creating tension within the production unit.
Along with Vijay, the film features Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Prakash Raj and Mamitha Baiju in important roles.
