Chennai: The Income Tax Department on Wednesday, has conducted raids on establishments linked to Tamil actor Arya. The inspections reportedly took place at restaurants operating in various parts of Chennai, including Anna Nagar, Velachery, Thoraipakkam, Kottivakkam, and Kilpauk.

According to reports from several Tamil media outlets the raids were carried out by a team from the Income Tax Department based in Kochi.

The investigation is said to be focused on a Dubai-based restaurant chain that operates across Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The Income Tax department team arrived at several restaurants owned by Arya in Chennai.

As per sources, the raids were initiated based on a complaint filed in Kochi. The complaint alleges tax evasion and the accumulation of unaccounted wealth. The I-T officials have also reportedly searched the residences of the restaurant owners as part of the investigation.

Arya, a native of Kasaragod, rose to fame through Tamil cinema. Arya is currently working on Pa. Ranjith’s Vettuvam. He will be seen soon in two upcoming films, ‘Ananthan Kaadu’ and ‘Mr X’.

Arya also runs a film production company named Show the People and is a partner in August Cinema along with Shaji Nadesan and Santosh Sivan.
