Simran, one of the most loved actors in South India, recently opened up about a painful personal experience involving a fellow female actor. The revelation came during her address at the JFW Movie Awards 2025, where Simran candidly spoke about the unpleasant incident.
In a career spanning decades, Simran has acted in multiple languages including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, she rose to become a force to reckon with—an undeniable powerhouse in the entertainment industry.
At the awards function, Simran recalled a very recent incident that left her shocked. "It happened just a few days ago and involved a female co-actor," she said. "I had sent her a message saying, ‘I was really surprised to see you in that role.’ It was meant in a good spirit. But the response I got was quite shocking."
The actor recounted the reply: “‘Well, it’s better than playing aunty roles,’ she said. It was an extremely insensitive comment, and I never expected such a reply from her. What I had shared was simply my personal opinion.”
Simran added that, in hindsight, she wished she had given a stronger response. “Playing an ‘aunty’ or even the mother of a 25-year-old—as I did in Kannathil Muthamittal—is nothing to be ashamed of. Those roles are powerful in their own right.”
She continued, “We should all have the confidence to pursue the kind of roles we believe in. Wherever I am right now in my life, I have earned my position. I am super proud to be a woman and deeply grateful to all my colleagues, my husband, and everyone who has supported me in my journey,” the actor said.
Simran’s speech served as a powerful rebuttal to the uncalled-for response she received from her fellow actor. She emphasised the importance of choosing quality work over being unnecessarily ‘image conscious’, and spoke against clinging to worn-out perceptions and outdated narcissism.
Simran's remarks have resonated across social media, sparking fresh conversations around ageism, role-shaming, and the importance of mutual respect within the film industry. As an actor who has gracefully evolved with time and continued to take on meaningful roles, Simran’s stand has drawn appreciation from both fans and peers alike. (With inputs from Agencies)
