Mumbai: Acclaimed actor Tannishtha Chatterjee, known for her powerful performances in films like Parched and Brick Lane, has revealed that she has been battling stage 4 oligometastatic cancer for the past eight months.

In a deeply personal Instagram post, the 44-year-old actor opened up about her diagnosis, sharing a photo of herself with a shaved head, sitting on a sofa. Her post, rather than focusing on suffering, carried a message of resilience, love, and the strength she’s found in the face of overwhelming adversity.

"As if losing my father to cancer was not enough. 8 months back I got diagnosed of stage 4 oligo metastatic cancer,” she wrote.

Despite the immense personal toll, including the responsibility of caring for her 70-year-old mother and 9-year-old daughter, Chatterjee shared, “It can’t get worse than this.”

She credited her close friends and family for their unwavering presence during the most difficult days. In another Instagram story, she posted a throwback image from a celebration with fellow actors Vidya Balan, Dia Mirza, Shabana Azmi, and Konkona Sen Sharma, calling attention to the profound impact of sisterhood and solidarity.

"In a world racing towards AI and robots, it’s the irreplaceable compassion of real, passionate humans that is saving me,” she wrote. “It is their empathy, their messages, their presence – their humanity – that is bringing life back.”

Chatterjee described her post not as one of pain, but as a “message of love and strength.” She thanked her support system for holding space for her in her darkest hours and expressed endless gratitude for their fierce love and loyalty.
