“I don’t trust anyone completely. I can’t assume anyone wouldn’t cheat—anything can happen,” stated Mahvash.

RJ Mahvash has ignited a wave of controversy on social media after making a joke about cheating and infidelity, potentially referencing the ongoing rumours surrounding music composer Palash Muchhal and cricketer Smriti Mandhana following the postponement of their wedding. In her comment, she humorously suggested that if she were getting married, she would personally investigate her fiancé’s messages online, even urging friends to reveal any suspicious activity. While some found the post amusing, many social media users slammed it as insensitive, given the private and personal nature of the couple’s situation.
Mahvash’s video in Hindi loosely translates to:
“Honestly, I don’t know what’s true or false, but if it were my wedding, I’d put my groom on the internet a week before. And if he’s messaging someone else, girls, please tell me. Don’t think, ‘She’s getting married, she must trust him.’ I don’t trust anyone completely. I can’t assume anyone wouldn’t cheat—anything can happen. Just share his DMs with me, or I’ll make them public myself. If it’s on Snapchat, record it from another phone… Please, help me out, friends.”
However, reactions on social media were swift and critical. Users described the post as tone-deaf, attention-seeking, and exploitative, accusing Mahvash of capitalising on a delicate situation for views. Comments highlighted that joking about someone who has represented the country in cricket and achieved significant accolades was inappropriate. Many argued that such content reflects a lack of empathy, respect, and understanding.
One user commented, “How have people become so insensitive? Joking about such matters for their own amusement is unacceptable, especially when she has represented our country and brought us a World Cup.”
Another wrote, “This clearly shows she’s a terrible person.”
A different user added, “She absolutely needs to be cancelled. Who in their right mind would make a video like this? It’s just so low and cheap.”
To the unversed, Palash Muchhal and Smriti Mandhana were scheduled to marry on November 23, but the wedding was postponed due to health issues concerning Smriti’s father. Since then, speculation about the couple has circulated online. The couple, however, has chosen to remain silent and has not publicly addressed the rumours.(With inputs from Agencies)
