Objectification of women in cinema has been a point of discussion and criticism for a long time. The latest to weigh in on the topic is ace actor Raashii Khanna.

In a candid interview with Zoom, Raashii stated that objectification of women is prevalent in Bollywood, just as it is in South Indian cinema. Commenting on the portrayal of women, she said:

“It’s not just limited to the South; I notice it a lot in the North as well. It really comes down to the actor’s personal choice—some are comfortable with it, while others are not. Having done numerous commercial films in the South, I feel it’s time to take a similar step in Hindi cinema and explore content-driven projects. I’m fine with doing commercial films, but even I have my limits. Every actor has their own boundaries, and that’s what shapes their identity.”

Talking further, she added:

“It’s crucial for me to feel comfortable with the work I take on. If I sense that a line is being crossed or that I might appear cheap, I simply won’t do it. Every actor has their own comfort zone, and I don’t pass judgment on anyone else’s choices.”

The actor’s opinions have gone viral since the interview, sparking further debates on how women are often portrayed in mainstream cinema.

Meanwhile, on the work front, 120 Bahadur, starring Raashii alongside Farhan Akhtar, is currently running in theatres.
