Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan is set to don multiple creative hats for Krrish 4, the much-anticipated instalment in India’s first major superhero franchise. For the first time in his career, Roshan will not only headline the film but also step into the director’s chair, taking over the reins from his father and veteran filmmaker Rakesh Roshan. The fourth film promises to expand the Krrish universe with a time-travel-based storyline and a star-studded ensemble.

Hrithik Roshan to direct and act in triple role

In a major development, it has been confirmed that Hrithik Roshan will portray three different characters in Krrish 4. He is expected to reprise his earlier roles as Rohit Mehra (the scientist) and Krishna aka Krrish (the superhero), while the third character—rumoured to be the antagonist—remains under wraps. Although these reports have sparked widespread speculation, Hrithik's team has officially denied any confirmation regarding the villain’s role.

The shift in directorial responsibilities from Rakesh Roshan to Hrithik marks a generational milestone for the franchise. The senior Roshan, who directed Koi... Mil Gaya, Krrish, and Krrish 3, shared his emotional reaction on social media. “I’m passing the baton of the director of Krrish 4 to my son Hrithik Roshan, who has lived, breathed and dreamt about this franchise since its inception,” he wrote, expressing pride in Hrithik’s vision and creative ambition.

Produced by Yash Raj Films and Filmkraft

The film will be produced collaboratively by Yash Raj Films (YRF) and Rakesh Roshan’s Filmkraft Productions. According to Rakesh Roshan, YRF head Aditya Chopra played a key role in convincing Hrithik to take on the directorial role. With YRF’s technological capabilities and production scale, Krrish 4 is being positioned as a high-concept film with a theatrical experience aimed at global audiences.

Time-travel narrative inspired by Hollywood blockbusters

Krrish 4 will reportedly explore a complex time-travel narrative, taking inspiration from international superhero blockbusters such as Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. While plot details are tightly guarded, sources suggest the film will feature multiple timelines, raising the stakes for the titular hero as he faces a new, formidable threat.

Despite its reliance on advanced CGI and elaborate set pieces, the filmmakers have emphasised that the emotional core of the story will remain grounded in family values and personal sacrifice—hallmarks of the Krrish franchise.

Cast reunions and new additions

Adding to the excitement, original cast members Priyanka Chopra, Preity Zinta, Vivek Oberoi, and Rekha are expected to reprise their roles, reuniting the ensemble that contributed to the earlier films' success. Priyanka played Priya, Krrish’s love interest, while Preity Zinta portrayed Rohit Mehra’s wife in Koi... Mil Gaya.

Additionally, Nora Fatehi is rumoured to join the franchise in a pivotal role, bringing glamour and intensity to the action sequences. However, her casting has yet to be officially confirmed.

The legacy of the Krrish franchise

The Krrish saga began with Koi... Mil Gaya (2003), a sci-fi drama that introduced Rohit Mehra and the iconic alien character Jadoo. The film’s box office success laid the foundation for Krrish (2006), in which Hrithik transitioned into a full-fledged superhero. Krrish 3 followed in 2013, pitting the hero against mutants in a high-stakes battle that proved commercially successful.

Over the years, the franchise has become synonymous with Indian superhero cinema, offering audiences a blend of science fiction, action, emotion, and visual spectacle. With Krrish 4, Hrithik Roshan aims to take this legacy forward in a bold, cinematic leap.

With its mix of nostalgia, innovation, and star power, Krrish 4 is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious Bollywood projects in recent years. From Hrithik Roshan’s directorial debut and triple-role performance to a time-travel narrative the production gears up to begin in early 2026.
