Kochi: The Ernakulam Central Police have arrested a man following a complaint by actress Honey Rose about online abuse. The actress had filed a complaint against approximately 30 people. Shaji, a resident of Kumbalam, has now been arrested.

The offensive comments followed after Honey Rose publicly responded to a person who made an inappropriate remark, using a double entendre. Around 30 people posted obscene comments under her social media post, which led Honey Rose to file a complaint with the Ernakulam Central Police on Sunday night.

The actress had previously expressed her strong disapproval of people who insult women and use social media to defame prominent figures. “Typically, such tirades by mentally disturbed individuals are ignored with anger and sympathy. However, I have now decided to take legal action in this matter,” she stated. She made this announcement through a post on Instagram.

At an event she attended, the actress had been insulted through a double entendre and decided not to attend any future events organised by that individual’s institution. In retaliation, the individual made degrading comments about her on social media, disrespecting her womanhood, Honey Rose wrote in her post.

Despite the attempts to insult her using double entendre, some people have questioned whether this is because she enjoys such statements or simply accepts everything. Honey Rose mentioned that this post was her response to those questions.

She also questioned whether it is possible for anyone with the backing of money to insult a woman and whether the legal system in India does not provide protection against such acts. She concluded by saying that the individual’s actions, including making sexual insinuations and pursuing them with such intentions, appear to fall under criminal offenses against women under Indian criminal law.
