Kochi: The Hema Committee report, released on Monday, has exposed troubling practices within the Malayalam film industry. While the report highlights issues faced by women, it also reveals that many men also feared to come forward due to the fear that it would adversely affect their careers.

Prominent artists and key figures were reportedly banned for extended periods over minor issues, allegedly by powerful industry lobbies. This intimidation has led many to avoid criticizing the industry. However, some courageous individuals have supported the formation of the WCC, viewing it as a step towards necessary reform.

The report notes, "It was shocking to know that the sole reason for such unauthorized banning was due to very silly reasons. They would have knowingly or unknowingly 'invited the wrath of one or another person from the powerful lobby in the industry, which rules the industry, Therefore, men generally were hesitant /scared to speak against the industry, fearing that any leaking of the information given by them will adversely affect their future chances in cinema."
