Driving back, Radhika told Sarath that he should be proud because his daughter was going to become a great actor.

In a poignant display of family solidarity, veteran actor Radhika Sarathkumar took to the stage at the pre-release event of Saraswathi to celebrate the directorial debut of Varalaxmi Sarathkumar. During an emotional address, Radhika offered a rare glimpse into the private struggles and eventual triumphs of the Sarathkumar household.
A father’s hidden pride
Radhika noted that while action star Sarathkumar often maintains a stoic exterior, he is "the proudest father in the world" today. She recalled a touching anecdote from an airport where, despite both she and Sarathkumar having films in cinemas, it was a stranger’s praise for Varalaxmi’s performance that brought the greatest joy to the veteran actor’s face.
The battle for a career
The road to stardom was far from smooth for Varalaxmi. Radhika revealed that Sarathkumar was initially vehemently opposed to his daughter entering the film industry, even attempting to dissuade producers from hiring her.
The actress recounted a pivotal confrontation in a film set caravan years ago:
"Varalaxmi was in tears, pleading her case while her father stood firm. It took a coordinated effort and a long discussion—whilst I was still in my police inspector costume—to finally convince Sarath to let her follow her dreams."
“Varalaxmi was crying. Sarath kept repeating that he didn't want his daughter in films. Finally, Sarath relented. As we drove back that day, I told him, ‘Sarath, you should be proud; she is going to become a great actor.’”
“The credit for the strong woman Varalaxmi is today goes entirely to Chaya. Varu has faced many struggles, but it was the strength Chaya provided that brought her here. I must also mention Pooja; she is the foundation of this family—a very sensible and brilliant girl,” stated the veteran actor.

Addressing the broader challenges faced by women in the industry, Radhika urged Varalaxmi and Simran, who was in the audience, to seize every opportunity, asserting that 'age is no barrier' and that actors must maintain 'absolute control' over their professional trajectories.
Saraswathi marks a milestone for Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, who not only stars in the lead role but also takes the helm as director and producer.
