In a powerful and emotional open letter, former South Indian actor Heera Rajagopal has levelled serious allegations against a prominent Kollywood actor, accusing him of orchestrating false narratives that allegedly led to her mental breakdown and a suicide attempt nearly 25 years ago.

Published on her personal website heeraalaya.com, Heera refrains from naming the actor directly, but the nature and details of her revelations reportedly point towards Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar, with whom she was once said to be romantically involved.

Heera, a popular heroine in the 1990s and fondly remembered by Malayali audiences for her role in the Mohanlal-starrer Nirnayam, claims that the actor created and disseminated fabricated stories to tarnish her reputation. She says these malicious efforts pushed her into a severe state of mental distress, culminating in a suicide attempt.

According to her letter, the unnamed actor, with whom she shared a deep personal relationship, had undergone back surgery during their time together. Heera alleges that she cared for him during his hospital stay, handling all responsibilities while he recovered. However, she says he abruptly ended the relationship without any explanation, leaving her devastated.

Desperate for clarity, Heera claims she arranged a private meeting with him. But instead of reconciliation or closure, she was met with cruelty. She alleges the actor told her he planned to marry a woman who was ‘submissive’ and that he wanted a partner who wouldn’t attract much attention.

Heera further claims that the surgery itself was part of a "manufactured narrative" aimed at garnering public sympathy and media coverage. According to her, the actor paid media outlets with illicit funds to ensure widespread dissemination of the false story. Following the breakup, she alleges he launched a calculated smear campaign, branding her as a drug addict — a label that deeply wounded her.

Though rumours at the time suggested that Heera’s boyfriend’s mother disapproved of their relationship, and gossip columns speculated about Heera’s supposed drug use, she had remained silent until now. Her letter also hints that these events led to her sudden and unexplained disappearance from the film industry at the height of her career.

Heera and Ajith’s relationship reportedly blossomed on the sets of the 1996 film Kadhal Kottai, a major success at the time. The couple was widely covered in the media, and their romance was a frequent topic of discussion in South Indian film circles. However, the relationship ended suddenly, and Ajith went on to marry actor Shalini.

Heera made her debut with the film Idhayam and starred in several successful films across Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Malayalam cinema. Despite her popularity and talent, her abrupt exit from the industry had remained unexplained for a long time.

Her open letter, laced with pain and long-suppressed truths, ends with a reflection on the emotional toll the experience took on her life. Without naming him outright, her account draws a deeply troubling picture of betrayal and media manipulation.

As of now, there has been no official response from the alleged actor or his representatives.
