The Government of India has officially announced that legendary actor, director and producer Mohanlal will receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023, the country’s highest honour in cinema. Soon after the news broke, celebrities flooded social media with heartfelt wishes for the Malayalam superstar, celebrating the recognition of his remarkable career.

Khushbu expressed her delight, writing, “Extremely happy and delighted to see our most amazing, our favourite, our most adorably lovable Shri @Mohanlal Sir being conferred with the most coveted #dadasahebphalke honour. It’s an honour bestowed upon the Malayalam industry, in fact the entire South Industry.”

Actor Aju Varghese also took to social media to congratulate Mohanlal.

Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar penned a touching note, “Every time I’ve had the chance to meet you or observe your work, it’s been like sitting in the front row of the greatest acting school ever. This recognition is so richly deserved. Respect and love.”

Sharing his happiness, Antony Perumbavoor wrote, “Seeing my dearest Mohanlal Sir honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award fills me with immense joy.”

Mammootty too shared a post for his long-time friend and colleague.

After the announcement, Mohanlal himself opened up about how meaningful the award was to him. Calling it one of the most unforgettable moments of his career, he said, “Extremely happy. Thank you all for all the love. It’s a surreal moment. I never expected it.”

He further expressed pride, saying the honour was not just for him but for Malayalam cinema as a whole. He added that it was a tribute to the industry, the language, and Kerala itself.

The award will be presented at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony on 23 September 2025. Last year, the honour went to Bollywood veteran Mithun Chakraborty.
