Thrissur: Girija Theatre owner Dr Girija on Thursday opened up about the online harassment she had been facing for the past five years and alleged that no action was taken despite lodging complaints. 

According to Girija, cyber attacks began after she made movie ticket booking facility available on her social media pages. “My theatre is not available on BookMyShow. Hence, I depend on Facebook and Instagram and handle the pages myself. However, since 2018, my Facebook account has been blocked more than 12 times,” Girija said. 

“I receive obscene messages on WhatsApp too. Getting fed up with all of these, I called Kayamkulam MLA Prathibha and informed the matter. She told me that there is a team handling bookings for the government and asked me to assign them. Thanks to her, I overcame some of the challenges,” said Girija, who currently does not have any social media accounts. 

“Many producers are not willing to release their movies in my theatre as it is not listed on websites. But, Prithviraj and Listin Stephen gave me the courage and offered their films for screening. I make my living because of a few such good producers,” she noted.
