Italian fashion icon Giorgio Armani's remarkable life is set to be explored in a new television series, with acclaimed filmmaker Ferzan Ozpetek attached to direct and co-write the project.

The untitled biographical series is being developed by Italian production company Lux Vide in collaboration with the Armani fashion house, according to Variety.

Ozpetek, who was born in Turkey and has built his career in Italy, shared a close friendship with Armani over the years. The filmmaker is expected to bring a personal perspective to the designer's story, drawing from both their professional interactions and private conversations.

In a statement quoted by Variety, Ozpetek reflected on his relationship with Armani, saying that the designer was not only a visionary and a brilliant artist but also a grounded and determined individual. He added that telling Armani's story is both an honour and a challenge, as it involves capturing the many sides of a man whose influence extended far beyond fashion.

The director is also co-writing the series alongside Francesco Arlanch, Lux Vide's head writer.

Ozpetek has built an impressive filmography over the years. His 2025 film Diamonds received widespread praise for its heartfelt story set in a Rome atelier during the 1970s, where a group of women race against time to complete an important costume order for an Oscar-winning client. On television, he also directed The Ignorant Angels, which premiered in 2022 as Disney+'s first original Italian series.

Armani, who died in September 2025 at the age of 91, transformed the world of fashion with his signature approach to tailoring. Born on July 11, 1934, in Piacenza, Italy, he became internationally recognised for redefining men's suiting in the 1970s with clean lines, relaxed silhouettes and understated elegance.

His close relationship with Hollywood played a major role in taking his designs to a global audience. One of his biggest breakthroughs came in 1980 when he created Richard Gere's wardrobe for American Gigolo, a film that helped establish Armani as one of the most influential names in luxury fashion.

Over the years, his designs have appeared in countless iconic films. Actors including Leonardo DiCaprio in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, Christian Bale in ‘American Psycho’ and ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy, Kevin Costner in ‘The Untouchables’, Brad Pitt in ‘Inglourious Basterds’ and Jessica Chastain in ‘A Most Violent Year’ have all worn Armani creations on screen.

His work also left a distinctive mark on Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas, further cementing his legacy in cinema as well as fashion.
