Kozhikode: Kerala bid adieu to actor Mamukkoya as his mortal remains were buried on Thursday at the Kannam Parambu Masjid here at around 10.30 am with full state honours. Mamukkoya, a prominent face in Malayalam cinema, is leaving behind hundreds of memorable characters. 

Prior to the funeral, his body was at his house until 9 am for public homage. Funeral prayers were held at Arakkinar Mujahid masjid and then Kannam Parambu Masjid, followed by the burial.

Representatives from the actors’ organisation Amma, including Edavela Babu, paid their last respects arriving at Mamukoya's house. Actors Joju George, Irshad, producer Aryadan Shaukat, minister Ahmed Devarkovil and others also paid their respects.

Mamukoya passed away at a private hospital at 1.05 pm on Wednesday due to brain haemorrhage followed by heart attack. Fans, as well as individuals from the field of cinema, drama, culture and politics came to Kozhikode town hall on Wednesday evening to pay their respects to the actor.

Mamukoya had acted in over 500 films and won the State Film Award Jury's Special Mention in 2004 for ‘Perumazhakkalam’, as well as the State Award for Best Comedian in 2008 for ‘Innathe Chinthavishayam’. He also received the Kala Ratnam Award, Kala Abu Dhabi Award, Nellikode Bhaskaran Award, KP Ummer award, and was the president of the United Dramatic Academy based in Kozhikode.
