Directed, produced, and written by Rakesh Roshan, the film was one of his most ambitious projects

The year 2000 saw the release of Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, a Bollywood romantic musical that not only captivated audiences but also introduced the world to a new star — Hrithik Roshan. Directed, produced, and written by Rakesh Roshan, the film was the directorial powerhouse’s ambitious project and marked the acting debut of his son, Hrithik.
Long before its release, Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai had already become a topic of discussion, largely due to Hrithik’s debut. Opposite him starred newcomer Ameesha Patel, whose performance also garnered praise. The film was recently re-released to commemorate its 25th anniversary, a testament to its enduring popularity.
Interestingly, superstar Shah Rukh Khan was reportedly the original choice for the male lead. However, Hrithik and the rest of the crew reportedly persuaded the director to consider someone else — possibly a newcomer instead of an established Khan. The search eventually circled back to Hrithik himself — a decision that would go on to shape Bollywood history
Upon release, Hrithik Roshan was instantly catapulted to stardom. Audiences hailed him as a "Greek God" for his striking looks and praised his exceptional dancing skills. The hook step from the song Ek Pal Ka Jeena became iconic, later recognised as Hrithik's signature move. A similar hook step also featured in the title track Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, adding to the film’s memorable choreography.
Initially, reports suggested that Kareena Kapoor would star opposite Hrithik. However, creative differences between Rakesh Roshan and Kareena’s mother, Babita Kapoor, led to her withdrawal from the project. The role eventually went to Ameesha Patel, who made a successful debut.
Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai went on to win a record-breaking number of awards, earning 102 accolades including Filmfare and IIFA awards — making it one of the most decorated films in Indian cinema history.
