London: Television’s biggest night is just around the corner, as the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards take place on Sunday in Los Angeles. With high-profile shows, historic nominations, and a late-night TV shake-up dominating the conversation, this year’s Emmys promise drama both on and off screen.

Here’s what to expect from the ceremony — including how to watch it in the UK, and which series are tipped for top honours.

When and where are the Emmys?

The Emmys will be held at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday evening, 14 September. The live ceremony begins at 5:00 p.m. PT / 8:00 p.m. ET — which means 1:00 a.m. BST on Monday for UK viewers and 5:30 a.m. IST for viewers in India.

Who’s hosting?

This year’s host is Nate Bargatze, a US stand-up comic known for his clean, observational humour. Though he’s not a household name in Britain, Bargatze is hugely popular in the States and was the highest-selling stand-up act in the US last year.

He’s also shaking things up with a playful twist: a $100,000 charity donation will be made on the night — but the amount decreases each time a winner runs over their speech time.
