‘Crazy Rich Asians’ is returning as an eight-episode HBO series, with Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Ronny Chieng and Michelle Yeoh set to reprise their roles.

Eight years after the romantic comedy became a global hit, ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ is returning with an eight-episode HBO drama series, bringing back familiar faces and revisiting the extravagant world of Singapore’s ultra-rich.
HBO has greenlit the series inspired by Kevin Kwan’s bestselling novels, with the story set to pick up where the 2018 film adaptation left off. The show will revisit the complicated relationships, family expectations and lavish lifestyles of Singapore’s wealthiest elite, with a longer format allowing the characters and their stories to be explored in greater detail.
The original film, which starred Constance Wu and Henry Golding, was a major box-office success. It became the highest-grossing Hollywood studio romantic comedy in North America in nearly a decade, earning a devoted global fan base.
The upcoming series will see the return of several familiar cast members, including Golden Globe nominee Constance Wu, Actor Awards nominee Henry Golding and Emmy Award winner Ronny Chieng. Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh will also reprise her role in a recurring capacity.
Adele Lim, who co-wrote the original film, will serve as the series' showrunner and executive producer. Author Kevin Kwan, director Jon M. Chu, and producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson are also returning as executive producers.
Chu, who directed the 2018 film, expressed his excitement about bringing the team back together and continuing a story that has remained popular with audiences.

“Eight years ago, ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ changed my life, and I got to make it with the most creative and hilarious group of people I’ve ever known,” he said in an official statement.
Reflecting on the cast's journey since the film's release, Chu noted that several members had gone on to become major stars, while Yeoh had won an Oscar. He also spoke about how the film had continued to resonate with viewers over the years.
“I can’t wait to share what comes next. Finally, I get to answer the question I’ve been asked almost every day for eight years: ‘When are we getting the sequel?’ Well… bok bok bitch, we’re back,” he added.
Lim described the series as the reunion fans had been waiting for, highlighting the opportunity to explore Kwan's characters and fictional worlds across eight episodes rather than a single film.
“Our writers room is humming and we can’t wait to share what we’ve come up with,” she said, adding that working again with the original creative team, alongside HBO and Warner Bros. Television, had been a dream.
Kwan also welcomed the announcement, thanking HBO and Warner Bros. Television for bringing the franchise back. He said the series format would give the creative team more room to develop the stories and characters from his books.
“Our incredible fans around the world have been patiently waiting for this, and it will be worth the wait!” he said.
The executive production team also includes Chloe Dan and Jeannine Tang for SK Global Entertainment, which co-financed the original film. Naia Cucukov Richards will executive produce through Lim’s production banner, 100 Tigers, alongside producer Rose Lam. Jacobson and Simpson will represent Color Force, the company behind the original film.
The series is being co-produced by HBO and Warner Bros. Television. With familiar cast members and the original creative team returning, the project will expand the story of ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ for audiences who have waited years to revisit its world of romance, family rivalries and extraordinary wealth.
