Screenplay writer and director Deedi Damodaran marked her resentment against the controversial remarks of actor Vinayakan at the press conference held to promote the movie ‘Oruthee’.
Deedi opined that Vinayakan’s comments did not shock her. But she was taken aback by the smile of director VK Prakash when Vinayakan made such a 'misogynistic' statement. She also expressed her anguish in seeing Navya who displays extreme boldness in interviews remaining silent at the moment.
Deedi accused that the different unions in the Malayalam film industry have kept the same silence to the issues faced by women in cinema and this had prompted Women in Cinema Collective to approach the courts several times. Endorsement of a crime by maintaining silence is deadly as the crime itself, added Deedi.
During the promotion of the Malayalam movie ‘Oruthee’, Vinayakan had ridiculed the #MeToo movement by saying “What is MeToo? I do not know.” He was responding to a question on the allegation of sexual misconduct against him.
