Kochi: Filmmaker Tharun Moorthy has opened up about the experience of narrating a script of the upcoming film 'Thudarum' to veteran Mohanlal for the first time. 

During an interview with I AM with Dhanya Varma, Moorthy shared how he waited nearly eight months for a call from the veteran actor before finally getting a chance to present their project.

“To me, narrating a script to Mohanlal was extremely nerve-wracking. For nearly eight months, producer M. Renjith, writer KR Sunil, my assistants, and I kept discussing the project. Meanwhile, Lalettan was busy with Malaikottai Vaaliban and preparing for the Empuraan schedule, and we kept wondering when we would finally get a chance to narrate the script to him. We were anxiously waiting for his call," he recalled.

He added, "He was aware that someone named Tharun was working on the project, and as eight to ten months passed without a call, we began to worry that he might never get in touch. Meanwhile, with announcements about his other movies coming in, I started thinking, 'He won't call me because I've only been involved in small projects.' I ended up skipping functions and simply waited at home for his call...Then, finally, the call came, and Renjith and I went to his flat. We were sitting on a sofa when I saw a man approaching towards us and saying 'Mone.' I was completely confused about whether to sit or stand." 

He revealed that while he is a confident storyteller, he feared failing in front of Mohanlal. To overcome this, he and his team decided to record the entire script, complete with the background score, and play it for the actor instead of narrating it live.

"I had already told Renjith earlier that I didn't have the confidence to narrate the story in front of Lalettan, even though I consider myself a good storyteller—I knew I would fail if I did it narrate the story in person. So, we decided to record the entire film—a two-and-a-half-hour script with background music—and that's how I narrated the story to him," Moorthy said. 

Moorthy’s film, Thudarum, has generated immense excitement among Mohanlal’s fans. The movie marks the actor’s 56th collaboration with Shobana and the 14th production under Renjith’s Rajaputra Films banner. In Thudarum, Mohanlal plays the character of a taxi driver.

The film, written by K.S. Sunil and featuring cinematography by Shaji, also Farhaan Faasil, Maniyanpilla Raju, Binu Pappu, Nandu, Irshad Ali, and Aarsha Chandini Baiju in supporting roles.
