Mumbai: Legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra, known as the “He-Man” of Indian cinema, has been hospitalised in critical condition at Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai. According to reports, the 89-year-old actor’s health deteriorated over the past few days, and he has now been shifted to a ventilator for advanced medical support.

Dharmendra was admitted to the hospital over a week ago after complaining of breathlessness. Initially, the actor was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), but his condition reportedly worsened, leading doctors to place him on ventilator support.

Sources close to the family stated that Dharmendra is being closely monitored by a team of specialists. While the family has not released an official statement, fans and colleagues from across the film industry have flooded social media with prayers and wishes for his speedy recovery.

Dharmendra’s recent medical history

Earlier this year, in April 2025, Dharmendra underwent an eye graft surgery. After the procedure, a video of him leaving the hospital had gone viral, where the veteran actor reassured fans with his trademark optimism, saying, “I have a lot of strength. I still have life.”

Despite his age, Dharmendra had remained active and continued to attend public events and family functions alongside his sons, actors Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol.

With a career spanning over six decades, Dharmendra’s contribution to Indian cinema is unparalleled. He made his debut in 1960 with Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere and rose to fame with films like Anpadh, Bandini, Anupama, and Aaya Sawan Jhoom Ke.

The actor became an icon of Hindi cinema with cult classics such as Sholay (1975), Chupke Chupke, Dharam Veer, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, and Dream Girl. Known for his charm, versatility, and screen presence, Dharmendra continues to be loved across generations.
