Malayalam film producer Siyad Koker has announced that his film "Devadoothan",  released in 2001 and re-released now, will compete for the National Award. He added that the movie starring complete actor Mohanlal which was directed by Sibi Malayil has the potential to win the prestigious award.

The film is being screened in theatres after 24 years. While speaking about the re-relase, Koker shared that 'Devadoothan' will compete for the national award. 

“The film is capable enough for that. I don't know what the rules are, but I believe I can crack it," Koker said at a press conference. 

"There are legal ways to move forward, we have beloved Suresh Gopi, and the government can be approached. If I fight legally, I can accept it without any objection to the government."

Koker praised the team behind the film, saying, "Sibi Malayil, Raghunath Paleri, Vidyasagar and others deserve National Award. Everyone who worked in the film deserves it. I will fight anyway."

The screenplay of ‘Devadoothan’ released in 2000 was written by Raghunath Paleri. 

Jaya Prada, Vineeth Kumar, Murali, Jagathy Sreekumar, Jagadish and others featured in the lead roles in the film. The music was composed by Vidyasagar.
‘Devadoothan’ tells the story of Vishal Krishnamoorthy, a composer and singer, played by Mohanlal, who reminisces about his initial struggles and an unknown soul that inspires him to compose songs. 

The film has an impressive performance by Mohanlal, an intriguing plot and mesmerizing music by Vidyasagar.

The re-release of the film has generated momentum among audiences to watch it again.
