Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala State Chalachitra Academy chairman and director Ranjith said that the academy had not lodged any complaint against anyone in connection with the protest that took place at the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) venue on Tuesday.
“The police would have their own reasons for intervening in the situation. It is not the academy’s stance to suppress protests,” he said.
Three people have been charged in connection with the protest, who were taken into custody by Museum police.
The police arrested three youths- Thiruvananthapuram native Kishore (25), Thrissur native Niharika (21) and Kollam native Mohammad Haneen (25) and later released them on default bail.
According to police, the accused came from outside and did not possess delegate passes.
The incident pertaining to the case took place on Monday evening at Tagore Theatre amid the world premiere of Lijo Jose Pellissery’s ‘Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam', over issues with reservations for the film.
The police, who had arrived at the spot, asked the protesters to leave the premises, but to no avail. Following that, three people were taken into custody.
