Kochi: A formal complaint has been filed against the song 'Sthuthi' from the upcoming Malayalam film 'Bougainvillea', directed by Amal Neerad. The complaint, submitted to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Central Board of Film Certification by Tony Chittilappilly, Secretary of the Syro-Malabar Sabha Almaya, claims the song distorts Christian beliefs and is offensive to the community.
Chittilappilly alleged that previous films by Amal Neerad have similarly insulted Christian values. He emphasized that the song's lyrics and visuals are derogatory, portraying Christian symbols as representations of evil forces. He questioned whether similar portrayals would be tolerated by other religions.
"Amal Neerad has previously released films that have similarly insulted Christian beliefs, and there was no response to those concerns. This latest incident is a significant insult to the Christian community. The lyrics and visuals of the song are disrespectful, deliberately undermining the beliefs and sacred images of Christians, turning them into representations of evil forces," Chittilappilly claimed.
He questioned whether similar portrayals would be tolerated against other religions.
Despite the controversy, the promo song quickly gained popularity, amassing over one million views shortly after its release.
