Bollywood actress Sayani Gupta has shed light on the challenges of filming intimate scenes and the need for professionalism on film sets. Speaking on Radio Nasha, the ‘Four More Shots Please!’ star shared how, over the years, she encountered situations where her personal boundaries were compromised, making her feel uncomfortable and vulnerable.
The actress, who was promoting her latest film ‘Khwabon Ka Jhamela,’ recalled several unsettling incidents from her career. Sayani emphasized the importance of intimacy coordinators, a role that has only recently been recognized in the Indian film industry. "I could write a book about intimacy, and I am grateful that this [intimacy coordinator] is a profession that has come to India finally. I had worked with one during ‘Margarita with a Straw’ in 2013. Intimate scenes are the easiest to do because it is very technical. But a lot of people also take advantage," she said.
Sayani recounted one disturbing experience where a co-actor crossed a line during a kissing scene. "I've been in situations where an actor lingered on a kiss after a cut, and you're like ‘uhhh’. Sometimes it is very subtle, but that's just indecent behaviour," she revealed. However, she did not disclose the name of the actor or the project involved.
In another incident, Sayani spoke about feeling exposed during an outdoor shoot for the first season of ‘Four More Shots Please!’ in Goa. She had to lie on the beach in a revealing outfit, surrounded by nearly 70 male crew members. Reflecting on the experience, she said, "I had to lie on the sand on the beach in a tiny dress, and there were some 70 people in front of me, including the crew. I felt so vulnerable at that point because there were some 70 men standing in front of me. There was not one person on set who was next to me."
She expressed her frustration over the lack of concern for her comfort and safety during that shoot. "I just needed one person to be there with a shawl. There are many times, because we shot in such a rush, that anyone’s safety is the last thing on people's mind. It doesn’t have to be an intimate scene, but a lot of times your boundaries are compromised, which is a general mindset that needs to be expanded," she added.
Despite these unsettling experiences, Sayani also highlighted a positive moment from the same series. She praised her co-star Prateik Babbar for making her feel safe while filming a nude scene. "His eyes didn't shift for a second, he just kept looking into my eyes. He just made me feel so safe. My respect for him reached a new level," Sayani shared.
She was last seen in Amazon Prime Video's ‘Call Me Bae’. Sayani Gupta made her acting debut in 2012 with ‘Second Marriage Dot Com’ and gained critical acclaim for her roles in films like ‘Margarita With A Straw,’ ‘Fan,’ and ‘Article 15.’
